Abstract

The article analyzes the chapter on the nominal (nomen) in Adam Bohorič's grammar Arctiace horulae succesivae de Latinocarniolana literatura (Free Winter hours on Latin-Carniolan grammar) in the larger context of the European grammar tradition. It presents Bohorič's grammar as an accomplished humanistic text, explains Bohorič's solutions that have previously characterized as weakness, it shows with graphics the structure of Bohorič's text, and describes its footing in Melanchton, similarities with Clajus' grammar, and parallels with other grammarians. The article also includes some new findings about Bohorič's glossaries accompanying the paradigms.
