Slovenian-Russian Contrastive Analysis of the Verbs videti ‘to seeʼ and gledati ‘to watchʼ
Keywords:
perception verbs, visual perception, aspect, Slovenian, RussianAbstract
The article deals with two basic verbs of visual perception in Slovene and Russian. It includes a contrastive analysis of constructions containing videti/видеть 'to see', that denote predominantly static and unconscious perception, and constructions with gledati/смотреть 'to watch', that express dynamically directed perception. The languages differ with regard to the syntactic possibilities of including these verbs in different interpretation frames. They can be used in constructions that take the Experiencer as a focused subject or in constructions that promote Stimulus to the role of the subject.
