The Semantics of Touch in Poems by Olga Sedakova
Abstract
This article is devoted to the representation and semantics of tactility in the poetic world of Olga Sedakova’s. Three works of the contemporary Russian poet have been selected in which there is an image of touch—namely, the early poems “Odnazhdy, kogda ia umru...” and “Kak ne drognuvshi vishni potrogat'” and the triptych “Selva Selvaggia.” The analysis was carried out on the basis of hermeneutic and intertextual methods. An examination of these poems shows that touch is an important leitmotif in the poetic world of Sedakova. In the Christian context, to which the poet refers with respect, the motif of touch becomes a symbol of creativity—also of eternity, as well as sensitivity and mercy. The poetic world of Sedakova's poems is founded on biblical values and Christian anthropology.
