The paper discusses the circunstances that paved the way for the foundation and work of the Slovene Society, Societas Slovenica (1810), Followed by the first chair of Slovene at the school of higer education (Lyzeum) in Graz (1811-1813). The moving power behind both actions, important for the public affirmation of Slovene language and culture, was the Slovenistic enthusiast, Janez Nepomuk Primic (1785-1823). The author presents his literary, educational and other activities as well as his tragic fate.Downloads
