The article deals with the issue of the special relationship between the author and the protagonist of the novel and presents some types of such relationships in the Slovene novel in the 1970's and 1980's. The common and fundamental element in novels with strong autobiographic roots is that authors' conceptions of artistic characters tend towards realistic material, taken from real life, which is true even of novels that are not written in a realistic manner. There is no clear division between the artistic image of the protagonist. The author and the protagonist express to the same degree their attitude towards the reality in which the author had to work.Downloads
