Matjaž Zupančič’s Drama Hodnik as a Response to the Fabrication of Reality of Today’s World

Abstract

The article defines the phenomena of "reality television" and emphasizes consequences and influences on its origins and development. Regarding this it questions the power of literature and how it can enter into a rivalry with new media, that are trying to take over its structures, themes and audiences. Then it analyzes - in correspondence with the entire dramatist's opus - the play Hodnik (The Corridor), winner of the Grum award, that tackles the topical subject of reality television in an alluring, modern and critical manner. The reason for this is, that the social complexity and paradoxical existence of reality TV are a welcome subject for diverse analyses, including literary.
