Abstract

The paper presents political commentaries in the correspondence between Sigismundus Zois and Bartholomäus Kopitar in the period of 1808-1818 dealing with: Napoleon's campaign against Austria in 1809, Treaty of Schönbrunn, events in the Illyrian provinces, status of Slovene language in the Illyrian provinces, Napoleon's wedding and the question of restitution of the Illyrian provinces to Austria, Napoleon's campaign against Russia, Napoleon's campaign against Germay, restitution of the Illyrian provinces to Austria and the question of their regulation, the Congress of Vienna, and Napoleon's Hundres Days and the founding og the Illyrian kongdom. The review of these parts leadsto both the explanation of Zois' and Kopitar's political views an to elucidation of their active engagement in politics, especially in establishing the Illyrian kingdom in the period of 1814-1817.
