Abstract

On the 110th anniversary of earthquake that devastated Ljubljana on April 14, 1895, known as the Ljubljana earthquake, the article discusses the representations of the earthquake in Slovene literary works. In introduction the author describes the earthquake and its consequences from the standpoint of a natural disater as well as of a historical event. The earthquake is then placed in the literary-theoretical framework and presented through the previous literary studies. Based on this, the author presents the survey of literary treatments, which is divided into two complexes, i.e, the direct treatments of the Ljubljana earthquake in literary works and the indirect treatments of the earthquake in literary works.
