The author examines the origin and formation of Slovene phrases (archaic) iti ob, (standard) iti za, and (low colloquial, dialectal) iti se za. He establishes that the former two, already known to older authors, are calques from German gehen um, while the latter was derived from iti za, under the influence of the phrase iti se, meaning 'to play".Downloads
