The paper sheds light on the editorial criteria for lexical borrowing in Pleteršnik's dictionary, as is evident from linguistic definition and proportionality of individual language groups. The author analyzes the inclusion, proportion, and usage of borrowings from German on a limited amount of material (words starting in b, j, and ž). This lexicon was included in the dictionary despite the general negative attitude towards borrowings from German. The usage of lexical items classified as German will be compared with Trubar's Germanisms from the Catechism of 1550, listed in Jože Toporišič's article about Germanisms in Trubar's Cathechismus.Downloads
