Abstract

The name of the literary genre that we call znanstvena fantastika in Slovene (science fiction) today turns out to be exceptionally problematical when we undertake a more detailed analysis of it. This is because the term is much younger than the texts it labels. The English term "science fiction"first appeared in 1926; the genre was discovered by Slovene literary criticism relatively late. The process of finding a corresponding Slovene term was even slower.
