The paper focusses on hrvatarji-seasonal migrants working in Croatian forests. The author compares information found in journalistic accounts in the Slovene press between the mid-19th to the early 20th centuries with information from literary texts by Ivan Trdina, Anthon Hren Kompoljski, Lea Fatur, and Zofka Kveder. The analysis of journalistic texts shows that in the documentary style of these texts the hrvatarji are presented as hard-working people struggling for their existence. The literary texts offer a literary upgrade to this perspective with emotionally depicted characters and the environment in which they live.Downloads
