Abstract

The paper discusses the so-called definite article ta in colloquial Slovene. The authors demonstrate that ta is an article-like element associated with adjectives. Ta is more or less comparable with the definite form of adjective in standard Slovene and Serbo-Croatian, but it differs significantly form the definite article in German, Italian, or Bulgarian. The paper has a two-fold purpose. Firstly, it aims to complement the existing descriptive literature onta, and secondly, it attempts to explain the behavior of ta in generative-syntactic terms. The author propose that ta is the subject of a small-clause-like terms.
