The point of departure of this article is the assumption that contemporary films in a wide range of genres and artistic forms try to reflect topical sociolinguistic phenomena, including multilingualism. The purpose of the article is to propose a typology of multilingualism based on the analysis of dialogues in select contemporary Russian or Russian co-produced films: Closeness, The Conductor, My Little Sister, Ayka, Escape from Moskvabad, Brother-2, and Anna German. The following criteria were used for the proposed typology of multilingualism: 1) sociolinguistic — the scope of dissemination of more than one language, 2) quantitative, and 3) functional.
