Interjections and Their Differential Qualities: An Emphatic Lexicological Perspective

Abstract

This article establishes the basic criteria for differentiating interjections from other parts of speech, thus making it possible for the newest growing explanatory dictionary of standard Slovenian to consistently pursue as clear a distinction as possible between interjections and particles. First, it comments on the existing typology along with a description of theoretical principles for distinguishing interjections from particles in particular. Afterwards, a new typology of dictionary definitions for interjections is given with related commentary, accompanied by a practical dictionary presentation of some interjections.
